The landmark King and Godfree building on Lygon Street will soon be home to three new venues from owner Jamie Valmorbida (Pidapipo; Johnny’s Green Room).
Valmorbida says the new concepts, including an all-day neighbourhood osteria and wine bar; a casual pizzeria in the former Agostino space; and a late-night cocktail and music bar in the basement cellar, will build on the success of Johnny’s Green Room.
“We’re creating a family of hospitality venues that honour the site’s heritage while looking to the future,” says Valmorbida. “This is about realising the King & Godfree building’s vision and creating a true neighbourhood precinct – generous, welcoming, and connected to its history.”
The new venues will take the space of the building’s former deli – a decision Valmorbida says was difficult but necessary.
“Letting go of the deli wasn’t easy, but it was time to move forward,” he says. “What we’re building still carries that same spirit – just in a new way. Our goal is to create venues that become part of Carlton’s story for years to come.”
The same creative team behind Johnny’s Green Room – designer Dion Hall and Culinary Director Karen Martini – are back on board to deliver the projects, alongside General Manager Joel Penno (Elwood Bathers; Chin Chin; Stokehouse) and Executive Chef Mark Glen (Cumulus Inc., Dinner by Heston, Carlotta).

The pizzeria will be the first venue to open in December and the others will follow through 2026. The group is currently hiring for both front and back of house roles.
The King and Godfree building is located at 297 Lygon Street, Carlton.
