Little Hideout Café located in Brisbane’s Balmoral has been announced as this year’s winner of Australia’s Best Avo Toast competition.

Owner and Chef Manish Shrestha is behind the winning dish which is titled Seasonal Avocado.

“I carefully made this dish to ensure that all the flavours heroed Fresh Australian avocado,” says Shrestha. “It is wonderful that Little Hideout’s dish stood out from all the entries and was selected the winner.”

The creation sees sliced fresh avocado from Big Michael’s providore on wild grain bread served with roast tomato aioli and accompanied by piped balls of whipped fetta, thinly sliced radish and beetroot hummus.

Many venues entered the competition putting forth their own high-quality iterations of avocado on toast, but judging came down to how well contestants championed the main ingredient.

Avocados Australia CEO John Tyas commended the efforts of all the entries and was proud to see the fruit presented in many different ways.

“It is wonderful to see how the Australian food service industry champions fresh Australian avocados on a plate,” says Tyas.

The nine other finalists in the competition were Barbetta Cucina (NSW), Guyala Café (QLD), Faraday’s Cage (VIC), nodo (QLD), The Banksia Tree (SA), Anouk Café (QLD), Cinnamon and Co (QLD), Bolton Street Pantry (NSW) and Kin and Co Cafe (QLD).
