Melbourne-based brewing company, Brick Lane, have secured the former site of the Mercat Cross Hotel located in the Queen Victoria Market precinct.

The old pub will be to redeveloped into Brick Lane Market — a new hospitality destination and immersive beer experience.

The major reno will be apart of the $450 million redevelopment of the Munro site on the corner of Queen and Therry Streets.

“The redevelopment of the iconic Mercat Cross Hotel site is one of the most important steps in the renewal of the Market Precinct and it’s an incredible honour that Queen Victoria Market has entrusted us with bringing this to life,” says Brick Lane Founder and CEO, Paul Bowker.

“We’re thrilled to be investing in our ongoing relationship with Queen Victoria Market.”

Located in the heart of the precinct, the two-level development will include a ground-floor bar, an upstairs restaurant and casual terrace dining on the upper level.

The bar will showcase a diverse selection of beers that include Sidewinder No Alcohol
and Sunsetter Ginger Beer ranges alongside labels from Victorian wine and spirit producers.

On the dining front, the restaurant will have a focus on sustainability and local Victorian produce.

Brick Lane Market will operate in conjunction with the brewery’s existing bar in String Bean Alley dubbed the Brick Lane Shed.

The space will also provide the opportunity to take part in new activations, as demonstrated in Brick Lane’s recent partnership with Melbourne Food & Wine Festival and Queen Victoria Market’s seasonal Night Market.

Brick Lane Market is expected to open early 2023.
