A restaurant that’s been crowned the Best in Asia a record four times has been named as the top culinary destination for 2025.
The live awards ceremony for Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants was held in Seoul earlier this week, which saw culinary representatives from 16 cities including Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Mumbai, Manila, and more come together to find out which restaurant had snagged the top position.
Gaggan was named number one, with chef Gaggan Anand launching a new concept of the Bangkok culinary destination back in 2019. The restaurant made its return to the rankings in 2023, rising up the list in the years following. The progressive restaurant is known for blending influences from Japan, France, and Thailand across a set menu that spans more than 20 courses. But a dining experience at Gaggan is much more than just a meal, guests enjoy theatrical elements throughout including pyrotechnics and an unconventional playlist.
Tokyo and Bangkok had the most entries on the list, with nine restaurants from each city making the top 50, followed by Hong Kong, coming in at seven. The Highest Climber Award was given to Chef Tam’s Seasons, which jumped 40 spots to secure the no.9 position, while Seoul’s Eatanic Garden was named the Highest New Entry, coming in at no.25.
The Chefs’ Choice Award was given to Vicky Cheng from Wing, while Dej Kewkacha from Gaggan at Louis Vuitton in Bangkok was named Best Pastry Chef. The late Margarita Fores was posthumously honoured with the Icon Award for her influence on the global culinary landscape and invaluable contributions to promoting Filipino hospitality.
“This year’s ranking presents a remarkable tapestry of dining establishments across 16 cities, with seven new entries showcasing the exceptional talent and innovative spirit that define Asia’s culinary landscape,” says Director of Content William Drew. Heartfelt congratulations to all the featured restaurants, particularly chef Gaggan Anand and his team at Gaggan, who have impressively secured the title of The Best Restaurant in Asia once again. Their commitment to culinary excellence and boundary-pushing gastronomy has firmly established them as a premier dining destination in the region.”
