The nation’s best bacon producers have been revealed at Australian Pork’s annual Bacon Awards.

Celebrating bacon made from 100 per cent Australian pork, judges assessed the appearance, aroma and taste of 125 products.

New South Wales came out on top, with Campbell’s Superior Meats in West Pymble named Best Australian Bacon after winning the NSW and national short cut bacon titles.

Fleischmeister Horst Schurger and chefs Simon Bestley and Adam Moore judged the competition, and described the winning bacon as having an excellent and neat appearance, great salty smoke profile and being an excellent product overall.

Rounding out the national short cut results, Perry’s Quality Meats in Smithton, Tasmania, took second place and Elite Meats in Holt, ACT, was awarded third.

Big Country Meats n Foods took out the award for best full rasher bacon, described as having a very good balanced taste and aftertaste with great smoky aroma.
