8bit has swung open the doors of its new Footscray site, launching on 11 December.
Located on Swanston Street, Melbourne, 8bit is headed up by chef Shayne McCallum and restaurateur Alan Sam.
The duo launched their first location in May 2014 at Droop Street, Footscray, offering retro themed dcor and a dedicated gaming machine arcade.
Speaking of the new opening, McCallum said “8bit will now be available to a new spectrum of clientele, with business workers and tourists in the day time, to the nightlife revelers looking for a late night feed.”
Menu items include the 8bit burger with beef, cheese, tomato, lettuce, mustard and pickles and the 8bit house sauce; as well as the Double Dragon which includes a double beef patty, double bacon, double cheese, salad, pickles and 8bit sauce. Hotdogs are also on offer, including the Fatal Fury with a japaleno and cheddar sausage, cheese sauce, chilli, beef and jalapeno – as well as potato gems and chilli cheese fries.
8bit also offers a range of shakes, with an everchanging specials menu, as well as classics including salted caramel, peanut butter, the strawberry cheesecake shake and the chocolate bar shake.
The new location’s design takes inspiration from 80s video games. The wallpaper on the exterior has the iconic 8bit burger symbol, reminiscent of a video game character and the interior is simple with bursts of colour and a range of seating including colourful stools along the counter, tables or booths.
