For the first time since its inception in 2007, NSW’s violent venues list has no venues in its most serious category.
The violent venues scheme was introduced in 2007 to manage venues with high levels of alcohol related violent incidents. Venues on the list face special licence conditions designed to reduce violence, including restrictions on trading times and the types of alcohol served as well as the introduction of various security measures.
The latest list, released on 1 December, shows the number of violent incidents at listed venues has decreased by 38 percent to 112 – the lowest number since the scheme’s inception. This represents a 91 percent decrease from the 1,270 incidents in 2008.
Under the scheme, venues are graded according on the number of alcohol-related violent incidents they experience ?over a specified period.
- Level 1 – generally 19 or more incidents
- Level 2 – generally 12 to 18 incidents
The list is updated twice a year and venues that record 12 or more make the list and are subject to trading restrictions.
There are eight venues on the latest list, down from 12 in June.
Level 2 venues include:
- Home Nightclub – 18 assaults
- Ivy – 18 assaults
- Penrith Rugby Leagues Club Limited – 14 assaults
- PJs Irish Pub, Parramatta – 13 assaults
- The Sunken Monkey Hotel, Erina – 13 assaults
- Jacks Bar, Lismore – 12 assaults
- Shoal Bay Country Club Hotel – 12 assaults
- The Grand Hotel, Wollongong – 12 assaults
Venues removed from the list are:
- Amaroo Hotel, Dubbo – 11 assaults
- Fusion, Cronulla – 11 assaults
- Pontoon Bar, Sydney – 11 assaults
- Plantation Hotel, Coffs Harbour – 10 assaults
- Romano’s Hotel, Wagga Wagga – 9 assaults
- The Beaumont Exchange Hotel, Hamilton – 9 assaults
- Beachcomber Resort and Conference Centre, Toukley – 3 assaults
