The World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants 2025 have revealed 17 world-beating Australian restaurants, with a podium finish for Margaret in Sydney.
Margaret secured second spot in a list that confirmed the strength and depth of Australian hospitality venues. Australia was the second-best represented country worldwide.
Sydney dominated Australian entries in the top 20, where there were strong showings for Rockpool (12), The International (14) and Firedoor (16). Melbourne’s highest entry was Victor Churchill (18) while Sydney’s Porteño rounded out the top 20.
For the third consecutive year, Parrilla Don Julio in Buenos Aires, Argentina was awarded the world’s best. Award organisers Upper Cut Media House commented from London, “Under the leadership of Pablo Rivero and Chef Guido Tassi, [Parrilla Don Julio] continues to impress with its artisanal approach and commitment to sustainability”.
Laia Erreteigia in Hondarribia, within the Basque region of northern Spain, completed the top three.
Margaret’s second place consequently positions the Neil Perry venue as Australia’s best steak restaurant, according to the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants 2025 awards.
“We’re absolutely thrilled that Margaret has been named one of the best steak restaurants in the world,” says Neil Perry.
“For our family-run restaurant to receive this recognition is an incredible honour. It’s a testament to the passion we’ve poured into our meat program – from working with exceptional producers like Blackmore Wagyu and CopperTree Farms to ensuring every cut served is perfectly dry-aged and cooked.
“It’s also fantastic to see 17 Australian restaurants featured on the list this year, a reflection of the outstanding quality of our beef producers,” says Perry.
Upper Cut Media House CEO and Publisher Ekkehard Knobelspies recognised the industry’s hard work and commitment around the world.
“Behind every ranking is a team that rises early, sharpens their knives, fires up the grill, and strives daily for excellence. Our role is to honour that commitment with integrity, care, and the highest possible standards,” says Knobelspies.
“Beyond outstanding meat, we celebrate the complete culinary experience that surrounds the perfect steak — an experience that resonates with millions of passionate steak lovers around the globe.”
The awards organisers evaluated a total of 900 restaurants worldwide independently and anonymously, via a global network of 21 steak ambassadors. Venues were judged against 28 criteria including meat quality, sourcing, ageing techniques, cooking precision, service, wine expertise, ambiance and authenticity to finalise the top 101 list.
Of the Australian venues to make the list, only Sydney and Melbourne are represented, with two-thirds of Australian venues being Sydney-based.
