Foodservice Australia adds dedicated gluten free area to this year’s show
Foodservice Australia will be adding a dedicated area to gluten free products for the first time this year.

Foodservice Australia, 2015 will be adding a dedicated area to gluten free products for the first time this year with the introduction of Gluten Free World.

Exhibition director, Tim Collett says that the addition of Gluten Free World was driven out the increased demand for gluten free products and services across the nation. Collett says that the new area will offer products and advice on how to service the growing gluten free market segment.

Mintel report issued in 2013 found that the $10.5 billion gluten-free food and beverage industry in the United States grew 44 percent from 2011-13. About 24 percent of Americans currently eat, or have someone in their household who eats, gluten-free foods. Mintel predicts the gluten-free food and beverage market in the United States will grow 48 percent between 2013 and 2016 and reach $15.6 billion. In Australia, Choice reports that the market is forecast to hit $98.6m this year.

Coeliac Victoria as well as industry expert Sue Shepherd will be available at Gluten Free World to answer questions and help chefs with menu options. In addition Coeliac Australia will be launching its Gluten Free Accreditation Program which establishes a ‘gold standard’ for gluten free food preparation. Three McDonald’s outlets in the Hunter Valley recently trialled the program, with great success.

“Until now there has been no standard, and diners have had to trust a restaurant’s claim that certain dishes were gluten free,” says Cathy Di Bella, special projects officer at Coeliac Australia. “This program is independently audited and of great benefit to both industry and the public.”

The accreditation process includes an onsite compliance audit by an appointed auditor, covering all stages of food delivery; from sourcing gluten free supplies, preparation of food, procedures, staff training, right through to serving the gluten free meal.

Leading suppliers exhibiting at Gluten Free World include Freedom Foods, Passage Foods, Gluten Free Life, Gotzinger Smallgoods, Julians Gluten Free, Soy Products, Well & Good, Rebellion Brewing, Lupin Foods and Forage Cereals.
