Brunswick’s 400 Gradi pizzeria will soon be getting a sibling, with Johnny di Francesco announcing the new restaurant is expected to open in July.
Di Francesco recently placed first at the World Pizza Championships in Italy with his margherita pizza, and third at the Las Vegas Pizza show.
Work has already begun on the new restaurant, which will replace Italian restaurant Guiseppe, Arnaldo & Sons at Crown in Melbourne’s Southbank, Good Food reports.
The new restaurant will seat 300 people, 50 more than the original and the design will feature an open kitchen. The menu will be based on 400 Gradi’s existing menu, but a few tweaks will be made for the new site.
It will be a busy 12 months for Di Francesco, with the chef next year returning to the World Pizza Championships, but this time as a judge. “I’m not allowed to compete in Australia anymore, and once you win at Parma it’s not encouraged to compete again. They like to have winners on the panel so I think I might pursue that he said.
