Internationally renowned wine judge Sarah Ahmed will join a panel of esteemed wine personalities today as judging kicks off for the 2015 Hunter Valley Wine Show.

Also known as the Wine Detective, Ahmed is one of Decanter’s ‘experts par excellence’ and will join the group of judges over the next three days (17 to 19 August) as they work their way through 730 entries from 69 wine exhibitors from the Hunter Valley region.

Hailing for the UK, Ahmed is highly regarded as an authority of the wines of Portugal and Australia. Ahmed has contributed to many leading wine reference books and is an effective media commentator in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Winemakers will compete for 25 trophies in total including the prestigious honours of the Petrie-Drinan Trophy for Best White Wine of the Show; Doug Seabrook Memorial Trophy for Best Red Wine of the Show; Ian Riggs Wine of Provenance; and Les Evans Trophy for Best Named Vineyard Wine.

The Hunter Valley Wine Show is considered to be one of the leading wine shows in Australia and dates back to 1848. The show has been held each year since 1974.

The awards to be announced at the Clear Image Hunter Valley Wine Show Celebration Luncheon on Friday 21 August at Cypress Lakes Resort.
