Award-winning Perth pizza maker Brandon Farrell has added another trophy to his cabinet after coming third at a prestigious international pizza competition in New York.
Farrell brought home the bronze medal after competing against some of the best in the world at the America’s Plate at the New York Pizza Show.
Gold went to the Finland team who created a reindeer pizza.
Farrell wowed the judges with a variation of his “Sweet Tina” pizza from the menu at his Fremantle pizzeria.
“It had garlic butter on a herb and wholemeal base, a touch of mozzarella, caramelised shallots, melanzane, roasted sweet potato, marinated artichokes and fontina cheese.” says Farrell. “And I added a double-smoked bacon, and topped it with snipped chives and edible flowers.”
Entrants in the America’s Plate are judged on crust; cheese and toppings, colour, arrangement, knife skills; taste and their pizzas must be commercially viable as well as creative.
Jarmo Valtari and Pertti Laitinen snatched victory from the runner up Italian team. The duo’s awarded winning creation featured smoked reindeer and mushrooms.
