Iconic Sydney restaurant Summit is about to celebrate a major milestone—its 40th birthday.
Once described as the “it girl of Sydney dining” by restaurants critic Terry Durack, Summit officially first opened its doors to diners on February 29, 1968.
The restaurant at level 47 of Australia Square has served more than 3.5 million customers since it was first launched by restaurateur Oliver Shaul.
It was later taken over by the Accor Hotel Group and relaunched by another prominent Sydney restaurant figure, Anders Ousback.
Last year saw the restaurant returned to private hands and with restaurateur and chef Michael Moore taking control.
Moore said the restaurant has a special place in the minds of anyone who has dined at there.
“There are millions of happy memories within these walls,” said Moore. “I’m excited to celebrate this landmark, reaching 40 is truly a great achievement in such a volatile industry.”
The Summit is planning a series of events to celebrate the anniversary including a media event which Moore will present “four decades of food”.
