A lucky apprentice or even someone planning to take on an apprenticeship could get the chance to cook alongside some of the world’s best chef’s in Japan in the second apprentice competition run by the Federal Government’s Skills One.

Throughout November and December SkillOne is running the second of its Ultimate Apprenticeship competitions that’s open to those studying or who have completed their qualifications within the automotive, horticulture or cooking trades.

Brian Wexham, chief executive officer of SkillsOne said that following an amazing response from the first Ultimate Apprenticeship competition run in August, SkillsOne would run Ultimate Apprenticeship promotions across all eight of its industry groups of focus.

“The Ultimate Apprenticeship competitions show just how far a career in a trade or skill can take someone,” he said, “There are many opportunities available within vocational training, and by working with organisations such as A1GP World Cup of Motorsport and WPC, we’re able to create more awareness of these opportunities and provide experiences for people to show their skills within their fields.”

John Hart CEO of Restaurant & Catering Australia said to work as a cook in Japan would be every apprentices dream. “Being immersed in one of the most influential cuisines of our time, with the best chefs is Japan, would provide one of our apprentices the experience of a lifetime and be a ticket to almost any job back in Australia.”

The Ultimate Chef Apprenticeship will see a talented Australian with a passion for food heading to Japan cooking with world famous chefs accompanied by a their own local guide who has worked in Michelin Star Restaurants in Asia and Europe, Tony San. They will get to shop at the largest fish market in the world, learn to make sushi with the chefs at Gonpachi, known for soba noodles and "kushi"-style skewered delicacies. They will join the brigade at the 6 star Park Hyatt Tokyo, preparing a banquet for 1000 International dignitaries, and then finally join a master Japanese Chef, learning the secrets of Japanese cuisine, make sushi from vinegared rice, combined with other ingredients (uncooked and in some cases cooked) such as fish.

This ultimate apprenticeship is valued at $15,000 and includes airfares, accommodation, transfers, taxes, guides and a learning experience beyond your wildest dreams!
