Northern Territory uses You Tube to build tourism
Tourism NT has used the internet site Youtube as part of its strategy to put Alice Springs in front of a worldwide audience this month.,
It’s launched a Northern Territory branded movie channel on the Youtube.com site that has become an Internet phenomenon.
The Territory is the first destination in Australia to set up a Youtube channel, as part of its digitally powered 2008 Alice Springs marketing campaign.
The campaign combines the Youtube venture with internet advertising on Google, Yahoo, National Geographic, Fairfax digital and News interactive.
Chief executive of Tourism NT, Maree Tetlow said the $2.2m campaign is designed to target 21st century travellers who use the internet when looking for inspiration, researching, planning and booking their holiday.
“Already this year, the world's leading online travel agency, Expedia.com has rated Alice Springs as the fifth most popular domestic travel destination for Australians in 2008,” Tetlow said.
“This shows that our internet savvy travellers know Alice Springs is a great destination, and through this campaign we will reach them directly within their preferred information medium—the internet.
“The web movies on Youtube provide travellers a richer understanding of Alice Springs and its surrounds, showing Red Centre attractions that offer visitors an authentic outback experience,” she said.
The campaign also includes ads in newspapers, magazines and on TV, promoting outback ‘adveNTure’ holidays in Alice Springs, by showing a couple enjoying a four-wheel drive holiday along the Red Centre Way.
