Twelve of best young chefs and waiters reach for Lexus glory

Six of Australia’s most promising young chefs and six of our most talented front of house stars will be battling it out to take out the top prize at the 2008 Lexus Young Chef and Young Waiter Awards.

The organisers of the annual competition to recognise and reward our up and coming best have unveiled the state finalists who have made it through to the next stage of the process.

Vying for a chance to take out the awards include Lexus Young Chef finalists Sarah Knights (Bistro CBD, Sydney), Jake Nicolson (Circa, The Prince, Melbourne), Ben Devlin (Urbane, Brisbane), Robert Withnall (Gershwin’s, The Hyatt Regency, Perth), Scott Heffernan (Smolt, Hobart), Rebecca Stubbs (Enoteca, Adelaide) and Lexus Young Waiter finalists Russell Mills (Bilson’s, Sydney), Chris Gingell (Circa, The Prince, Melbourne), Penny Grant (Isis Brasserie, Brisbane), Laura Broadbent (Star Anise, Perth), James Welsh (Stillwater Restaurant, Launceston), Leanne Altmann (The Manse, North Adelaide).

The 2008 national winners will be announced at a gala event on August 11 in Sydney attended by Australia’s food industry leaders and guest of honour, Tom Aikens, one of the UK’s most successful young chef / restaurateurs.
