Top NSW hotels honoured at annual awards

Sydney’s The Observatory Hotel was last night named Deluxe Accommodation of the Year for the second year in a row at that annual Australian Hotels Association NSW for the best 3, 4 and 5 star hotels in the state.

Here’s the full list of winners: The Crowne Plaza Terrigal was awarded the top gong for Regional Superior Accommodation of the Year while The Grace Hotel Sydney also scooped one of the night’s major awards.

Chef Steven Krasicki from the Shangri-La Hotel Sydney won the Chef of the Year award while the hotel’s restaurant Altitude was named Restaurant of the Year.

Thirty three winners were announced at the awards held at the Hilton Sydney.

Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa was a major winner taking out three categoriesBest Environmental Initiative, Regional Deluxe Accommodation of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to Tourism. The Shangri-La Hotel and Sheraton on the Park were also standouts taking out four awards and three awards respectively.

The awards inaugural Hall of Fame winners were also announced and included chef Sean Connelly from Star City Hotel and Apartments, Darley’s Restaurant at Lilianfels Blue Mountains Resort & Spa, The Old City Bank Brasserie at The Carrington Hotel, and Quay Grand Suites.

Occupational Health & Safety Hotel of the Year—Sheraton on the Park

Food & Beverage Employee of the Year—(Joint winners) Sarah Connelly, Mercure Sydney and Stella Mauro, Hilton Sydney

Public Relations, Sales & Marketing Employee of the Year—Bess Fong Mercure Sydney Airport

Human Resources Employee of the Year—Lyndell Hart, Sydney Marriott Hotel

Front of House Employee of the Year—Martin Zumstein, The Westin Sydney

Employee Excellence in Service—Rosalee Karutz, Sydney Harbour Marriott

Concierge of the Year—Colin Toomey, Shangri-La Hotel Sydney

Housekeeper of the Year—Bernadette Hobson, The Sebel Pier One Sydney

Chef of the Year—Steven Krasicki, Shangri-La Hotel Sydney

Hotel Industry Rising Star—Kate Humphrey, Four Points by Sheraton Darling Harbour

Regional Restaurant of the Year—Breeze Restaurant, Crowne Plaza Newcastle

Restaurant of the Year—Altitude, Shangri-La Hotel Sydney

Regional Brasserie/Café of the Year—The Workshop, Quality Hotel Powerhouse Tamworth

Redeveloped Accommodation Hotel of the Year—Mercure Sydney

Apartment/ Suite of the Year—Star City Hotel & Apartments

Regional Mid Range Accommodation of the Year—Loxley on Bellbird Hill

Mid Range Accommodation of the Year—Citigate Central

Regional Superior Accommodation of the Year—Crowne Plaza Terrigal

Superior Accommodation of the Year—The Grace Hotel Sydney
