Tourism Western Australia is preparing for an increase in visitor arrivals after Singapore’s low cost carrier Tiger Airways revealed it will launch services between Singapore and Perth on March 23.
It will operate four flights per week increasing to daily by November. Tiger Airways chief executive Tony Davis said return airfares between Singapore and Perth would start from $292.94, including taxes, and charges, less than half the cost of a similar fare with Singapore Airlines.
“We are proud to be the only Asian low-cost carrier to link Perth with Asia,” Davis said.
Singapore is currently WA’s second source of visitors with 57,000 people travelling to the state each year.
Tourism minister Sheila McHale said low-cost carriers like Tiger Airways have changed the face of holiday travel in Asia by making by making destinations like Perth more affordable.
“Historically, low cost carriers have been successful in boosting tourism activity by offering competitive fares and attracting visitors who have not previously much,” McHale said.
Tiger Airways now flies to two Australian cities, the other being Darwin.
Tourism WA has said it will increase its marketing activity in Singapore on the back of the new flights. Courtesy of Travel Todayhttp://www.travelweekly.com.au/dirplus/images/travelweekly/TravelTodayPDF/15_01_2007.pdf
