Tetsuya Wakuda’s Sydney restaurant has held on to its number five position in a ranking of the world’s top fifty restaurants announced in London.
However, Neil Perry’s Rockpool restaurant lost ground falling three places to number 33 in this year’s Restaurant Magazine awards.
The top five in the list remained unchanged with Spain’s El Bulli retaining the number one position followed by the UK’s The Fat Duck.
New entries to the Top Fifty this year included Turin’s Combal Zero, Milan’s Cracco Peck and Chicago’s Alinea whose youthful head chef Grant Achatz has been heaped with praise in recent years.
The Breakthrough Award went to Gordon Ramsay’s Maze and its head chef, Jason Atherton. However, Ramsay’s eponymous restaurant slipped 10 places on last year’s ranking.
Heston Blumenthal and his restaurant The Fat Duck also picked up the Chefs’ Choice Award which is voted for solely by the chefs who appeared on the 2006 list.
