Sydney hotel the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has unveiled a new adventure for wine lovers with the addition to its wine list of a series of interesting wine flights that have been designed by the hotel’s regional sommelier, Nobuko Okamura.

Each wine flight is a trio of specially selected tasting portions presented in three glasses in an elegant silver stand. Together the three wines in each of the flights are aimed at offering customers a tasting progression that is united by a common theme or special relationship. . The flights will be presented with a card explaining the wines and their relationship, with space for guests to make their own tasting notes.

Prices start from $15 for Sofitel’s ‘New Discovery’ wine flights featuring a selection of wines from boutique family winery, Whispering Brook, and up to $35 for the selection of ‘Le Goût Ruinart’ champagnes.

The flights have been introduced as part of the Sofitel Wine Ritual concept—a worldwide initiative celebrating the French heritage of the Sofitel group through adventures in fine wine.

Okamura said the wine flights would offer changing selections of wines, presented in themes according to variety, geography, domaine, vintage or exclusivity.

“It’s about creating a story and a sense of theatre, a chance for the guest to become involved in the ritual of wine and discover something new,” Ms Okamura said. “We might offer three different wines from a particular château in France, or three wines that demonstrate the character of a particular Australian region. We might present vertical tastings of three vintages of the same wine, three wines from upcoming young winemakers, or perhaps three different wines from the same variety of grape.”
