Four Points by Sheraton Sydney hotel was one of the businesses that put its support behind the corporate category of Clean Up Australia Day.

Fifty three volunteers from the Darling Harbour hotel focused their efforts on one nearby street that is the main thoroughfare for all its suppliers in what was their first corporate Clean Up Australia Day.

They collected 15 large bags and one bin of rubbish, a substantial amount of fallen trees/branches/twigs, 25 milk crates and two shopping trolleys.

Paula Hammond, the hotel’s director of human resources, said the hotel believed its involvement in the event added value on many levels. “We were supporting the community, cleaning up our hotel surrounds and our associates truly appreciated being able to contribute to a national event whilst at work,” she said.

“We are already thinking about next year and are hoping to expand our footprint.”

A record 498 business sites signed up to participate in Clean Up Australia Day which in 2010 marked its 20th year.
