Chuck Hahn’s Malt Shovel Brewery has rolled out its second limited edition beer for the year—a porter it says is made using the rum barrel aging process.

It’s name James Squire Rum Rebellion Porter, based on the famous rum rebellion, again follows the brewery’s tradition of reflecting a piece of Australian history. It uses a brewing process that was developed in London in the late 1700s and will be available nationally from early next month.

With earthy undertones of oak and rich in flavour and dark in appearance with the residual rum flavour from rum barrels creating a smooth finish.

Hahn said the new beer gives Australians the chance to taste a beer whose name originated from such a famous part of Sydney’s history.

“In 1808 Australia was overrun by a group of renegade soldiers. Nearly two hundred years late we are proud to share this flavoursome brew which is a tribute to the spirit of the Rum Rebellion,” Hahn said.
