If you like white bread don’t bother going to SumoSalad. The chain has announced its removing the white bread from two of its major product lines this month.
It said it will replace the bread used in its toasties and long rolls with multigrain and soy and lnseed varieties in an effort to offer Australians even healthier fast food options on the go.
SumoSalad managing director Luke Baylis said that while the company acknowledges the move could isolate a proportion of their customer-base who in the past enjoyed its white bread menu items, it “recognises the need to provide its overall customer base with more nutritious alternatives such as the new grain and seed bread varieties is considerably more important”.
Baylis said that in 2011 SumoSalad aims to “get serious” about making menu items more nutritious for its customers.
“While the decision to take white bread out of these product lines could be seen as a bold move we have to think about the larger majority of our customers who will be pleased that this change makes SumoSalad an even better fit for their healthy lifestyles,” Baylis says.
“Over the past decade there has been a definite consumer shift towards the high fibre, low GI qualities of wholemeal, seeds and grains. SumoSalad is simply aligning itself with the general consumer demand and we think our customers will appreciate it.”
Baylis said there are also plans to introduce quinoa rolls as well as flavours “never before offered in the fresh fast food environment”. SumoSalad is also giving its customers the option of purchasing half size items on products such as long rolls and wraps.
