Patrons of the Pool Club at Sydney’s Ivy venue will soon be sipping their cocktails from specially commissioned seashell-shaped vessels designed by international designers Edward & Co.
The Ivy’s owner Merivale has engaged the design company led by interior and event designer to the stars, Edward Coutts Davidson, to create a series of marine-inspired cocktail accessories for the rooftop venue which features a swimming pool as part of its features.
Merivale said its head mixologist, Mikey Enright, has been working exclusively with the designer to create six new cocktail accessories that will be a first for Australia and reflect the latest trend in drink sharing vessels in Europe bars and clubs.
The six melamine designs include a silver starfish that holds six individual drinks, as well as pearlescent free-form conch shells and clam shells. Some cocktail shells will be known as “share shells”, allowing friends to sip drinks from the shell using long straws. The clam shell—christened “Clamourous” by Edward & Co—will be a single-serve cocktail.
Coutts Davidson said he was inspired by the St Tropez like look of The Pool Club’s design.
“Ivy is one of the most unique design-lead establishments that could happily grace any city,” he said.
“The Pool Club inspired me to think of St Tropez in the 1950’s and come up with the “Clamourous” and other shell concepts.”
Enright is working on the Ivy seashell cocktails, which will use top spirits such as Belvedere pure, Belvedere flavours, Hennessey VS and Ten Cane rum, as well as Veuve Cliquot NV.
The cocktails—in their shells—will be served up in spring when Ivy’s pool reopens for business in September.
