A young entrepreneurial couple’s restaurant/bar business idea has been given a boost with a $10,000 business grant.

Jasmine Costello came up with the idea for a business that combined a bar and a chess club earlier this year after suggesting her partner take up chess as a way to take his mind of the stress of finding a job.

The Melbourne couple's vision for an integrated bar/chess club named 'Chess-nuts' has received the 2010 Commander Business Grant worth $10,000.

Costello said their research found there were other chess players looking for a more regular outlet for their passion.

“Our vision for Chess-Nuts is a relaxed, inner city bar environment where chess lovers can come, meet other chess players while enjoying a drink and a chat,” she said.

Costello said she will use the grant to find a location for the concept, initially planned as a partnership with an existing venue.
