A study released by Wine Selectors this week found that sales across its 100,000 customer base show that the white varietal and favourite drink of Kath and Kim is the nation’s favourite tipple.
Red favourites vary by geography and climatic influences: Sydney sophisticates drink Merlot, fashion conscious Victorians and sun rich Queenslanders drink Cabernet Sauvignon while Canberrans remain patriotic to their locally grown cooler climate Shiraz labels.

The only eastern state to give Chardonnay the thumbs down is Victoria who favour the increasing popular Sauvignon Blanc.
Alex Meijnen, marketing general manager, says that there are a lot of stunning Chardonnays on the market compared to ten years ago and Aussies know it.
“Industry wine trends show that Sauvignon Blanc and blends are the top selling white wine today yet wine enthusiasts are telling us that they are still buying Chardonnay.”
Winemakers’ Federation of Australia figures showed more than half of 863,567 tonnes of white wine grapes crushed this year were Chardonnay – more than other red or white varietals.
