It’s the annual opportunity for apprentice chefs to put their skills to the test and possibly win the chance to train overseas.
The Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award 2010 is now calling for teams of two apprentice chefs to get their entries into the long running competition by May 10.
Winners are selected in each region with teams then going on to compete in the national finals in Melbourne in September.
Each year the Australian Culinary Federation coordinated Golden Chefs Hat program awards two chefs under the age of 25 the chance to develop their career through overseas training. The winners this year will receive an international travel prize worth $15,000 to an as yet to be revealed destination.
Last year’s winners, the Western Australian team of Shane Middleton and Cameron Wetton, won a trip to Santiago, Chile to attend the 34th World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Congress as part of their prize.
The first stage of the competition involves apprentice chefs take part in a series of regional mystery box cook-off challenges. The best teams then go forward to represent their region at the national final cook-off battle.
All national final competitors have the opportunity to win medals for achievement in culinary excellence to recognised standards in entrée, main and dessert course categories.
