Is it just a strategy to generate publicity or is there going to be controversy at tonight’s announcement of the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Awards?

In today’s Sydney Morning Herald newspaper co-editor Joanna Savill hinted there could be some surprises when the awards and the hats are revealed.

“Let’s just say there might be a few gasps,” she’s quoted as saying.

Those restaurants shortlisted in the top Restaurant of the Year award tonight include Rockpool, Est., Marque, Quay, and Bentley while the list of chefs shortlisted for Chef of the Year includes Mark Best (Marque), Peter Doyle (Est.), Martin Benn (Sepia), Peter Gilmore (Quay), and Colin Fassnidge (Four in Hand)

In the running for the Best New Restaurant are Ad Lib, Manly Pavilion, Ormeggio, Sake, and Berta.
