Sydney casino's new luxury hotel The Darling - the first five star hotel to open in Sydney since 2000 - is a sign of confidence in both the accommodation industry and Sydney as a leading international destination, says the accommodation industry.
Accommodation Association of Australia chief executive officer Richard Munro said the hotel which opened its doors to guests last week at the renamed The Star casino would be a big plus in the city's efforts to attract visitors.
He said The Darling, a 171-room hotel with stunning views of Sydney’s world famous landmarks, would be a "magnet" for both domestic and international travellers.
“The opening of this new hotel heralds a significant milestone for the luxury segment of Australia’s accommodation industry,” he said.
“It's the first new five-star hotel to open in Sydney since the 2000 Olympics. It adds another world class piece of tourism accommodation infrastructure that will enhance Sydney’s reputation as a world-renowned tourism destination, draw more travellers from home and abroad and provide a boost to the domestic tourism and accommodation industry.
“It also moves us one step closer to reaching Tourism Australia’s goal of 40,000 to 70,000 new accommodation rooms in Australia by 2020.”
