Finalists in the 2016 Tasmanian Wine List of the Year competition have been selected, with members of the public invited to visit and vote for their favourite venue.

Now in its third year, this program is presented by Wine Tasmania in partnership with the Tasmanian Hospitality Association to recognise Tasmanian businesses supporting the island’s wines.

Following selection by an independent judging panel, the following businesses have been announced as the 2016 finalists:

  • Ball & Chain Grill, Salamanca Place, Hobart
  • Black Cow, George Street, Launceston
  • Grape Bar & Bottleshop, Salamanca Place, Hobert
  • Market Square Restaurant, The Sebel, St John Street, Launceston
  • Mures Upper Deck, Davey Street, Hobart
  • Stillwater, Ritchies Mill, Launceston
  • Tasmanian Food & Wine Conservatory, Sassafras
  • The Glass House, Brooke Street Pier, Hobart
  • The Terrace Restaurant, Country Club, Prospect Vale
  • Twelve Stones Restaurant, Ford Road, Pontville

Wine Tasmania CEO Sheralee Davies encouraged members of the public to visit these businesses and vote for their favourite as part of the ‘People’s Choice’ Award.

“It’s been very pleasing to see both the range of high quality applications in this year’s program as well as noticeable changes and improvements amongst previous applicants,” Davies said.

“Once again, it has been a particularly challenging task for the selection panel to select its Judges’ Choice and finalists and we thank and acknowledge all applicants for their interest in and support of the island’s wines.”

Tasmanian Hospitality Association general manager Steve Old said wine played an extremely important role in the hospitality sector.

“Just as people make decisions on where to dine based on a menu, people also make those decisions based on the quality of a venue’s wine list. Tasmania has an excellent reputation for both food and wine, and here is a great way to recognise those venues which are providing their patrons with excellent wine choices as well as supporting Tasmanian growers,” Old said.

Venues are assessed against a range of criteria, including the representation of Tasmanian wines by the glass and bottle, the depth and scope of wines offered, the way Tasmanian wines are listed and promoted on the wine list and relevant aspects of wine service, training and knowledge.

The 2016 Tasmanian Wine List of the Year ‘Judges’ Choice’ and ‘People’s Choice’ Awards will be announced at the THA Gala Evening on 29 August 2016. Public voting closes on Sunday 14 August 2016.
