Domino's Pizza has added some green credentials to its home delivery operations with the purchase of seven electric scooters for trial in its delivery fleet.
The scooters, bought from Vmoto, follows a six month evaluation by Domino's. If the trial is successful the pizza giant says it plans to phase out its current petrol delivery vehicles and replace them with and electric fleet.
Domino's chief operations officer, Andrew Rennie, said the company was "committed to sustainability inititiatives aimed at reducing our carbon footprint".
"The trial of Vmoto electric scooters is a significant step forward for Domino's given deliver is a huge part of our business," Rennie said.
Domino's is largest pizza delivery company and currently has 554 stores in Australia and in New Zealand. It would need up to 3000 electric delivery scooters by 2014 to meet its home delivery demand.
