The Australian Food and Grocery Council, Australia’s peak body representing food and grocery manufacturers, has congratulated the Food Safety Information Council on their sound management of another successful National Food Safety Week.
AFGC chief executive Kate Carnell said that although the Australian food manufacturing industry had a very good record when comes to food safety at the production level; there was still an apparent issue with food handling with an estimated one million Australians suffering from the effects of food borne illness each year caused by poor food handling in the home
“The packaged food industry has been a long time supporter of the FSIC and its important work in helping to raise awareness about food safety.
“The Australian food manufacturing sector is a world leader when it comes to food safety, with rigorous quality control measures being in place throughout the production process.
“Any measure that gets the public more focused on taking greater care when preparing food in the home can only represent a net benefit to the public,” Carnell said.
