Neil Perry has announced that a one time waiter at his Rockpool restaurant in Sydney will be the general manager of the new Perth outpost of Rockpool Bar and Grill.
Perry today revealed that West Australian David Best who was a waiter at Perry’s flagship fine diner in his very early years would be taking the top job at the new Perth operation which is scheduled to open at Burswood Entertainment Complex in February.
Best has spent the past 13 years in London, working in senior management roles at the renowned Conran Restaurant Group including Mezzo, Coq d’Argent and the relaunch of Launceston Place.
He returned to his home town in February this year taking up the position of general manager for Coco's Restaurant and the Bellhouse Seafood Cafe in South Perth.
Best said that after seeing the GM role for Rockpool Bar and Grill Perth advertised in June he thought it was too good an opportunity for Best to ignore.
“I have long-admired Neil and his unwavering dedication to quality since working at Rockpool in the early days of my career,” Best said.
“I'm thrilled to be given the opportunity to take on this challenging role and look forward to working with Neil and the team to make Rockpool Bar & Grill Perth one of the city's most exciting and bustling restaurants.”
Perry said Best’s extensive experience in managing large and busy restaurants in both London and Perth made him the perfect candidate for this role.
“Together, we will establish Rockpool Bar & Grill Perth as the city's best restaurant, renowned for its outstanding food and wine, and impeccable service.”
Best will start at Rockpool Bar and Grill Perth in the middle of this month, working alongside Perry and head chef Dan Masters, and managing a team of 100 front of house and kitchen staff. He’ll also be assisting with the openings of the new Spice Temple and The Waiting Room in Melbourne.
