The organic industry’s program of road shows aimed at increasing awareness about progress in developments in the industry this week comes Brisbane.

A growing industry in Australia, the organic sector is facing challenges including lack of consistent supplies of produce and products, lack of information for growers on new technologies and methods of production, etc.

To address some if these hurdles the Biological Farmers of Australia—Australia’s largest representative body for the industry is holding an ongoing series of organic workshops, known as the ‘BFA Roadshows’, in six regional and metropolitan areas around Australia. The roadshows are designed to provide an avenue for keeping informed and networking.

BFA's Chairman Doug Haas said that networking between players in the industry was vital for the growth of the industry.

“We recognise that apart from technical information of production and marketing information, that networking, whether between producers or between marketers and producers, is critical for our industry to continue to grow in a sustainable manner," Haas said.

The next road show arrives at Bardon in Brisbane next week this week on July 20 with processors, producers, wholesalers and all industry members being encouraged to attend.

Speakers will include experts in their fields speaking on a range of topics including the latest soil health innovations, supply and demand in the horticulture industry and more.

Sponsors who will have displays on the day include allowed farm input companies Ausmin Australia, Katek Fertilizers Australia, Kialla Pure Foods, Organic Crop Protectants, consulting company the Right Food Group and wholesaler United Organics.

Other destinations for the road show this year include Launceston, Tasmania (5 October), Armidale, NSW (30 November), and WA (November). More around Australia are planned for 2008.
